FAQ

Is VortX free?

Yes. VortX is free and open source, with no paywalled tiers. Profiles and cloud sync are free too.

Does VortX provide movies or shows?

No. VortX is a player. It hosts, indexes, and streams nothing. What you can watch comes entirely from the add-ons you choose to install and the sources they return.

Is it affiliated with Stremio?

No. VortX is an independent open-source client built on the open stremio-core engine. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Stremio.

Which platforms does it run on?

Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac today. Android, Windows, Linux, and Google TV are in active development on the same engine.

Do I need an account?

No. VortX works fully without one. A free, end-to-end-encrypted account is optional and only adds cross-device sync, backup, and recovery.

Why is it sideloaded instead of on the App Store?

The full builds embed a streaming server the App Store does not allow. A Lite, serverless build suitable for TestFlight and the App Store is planned; it will play debrid and direct links and lean on add-ons for sources.

How is my data kept private?

Your password derives the encryption key on your device, so the server stores only ciphertext and can never read your library, history, or settings. See Account and sync.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Open a GitHub issue or start a discussion.
